Lights Out
When experiencing this critically acclaimed project, audience members find themselves in complete darkness, with absolutely no visual input. Without the sight, the other senses grow more important and the hearing takes on an especially important role. In this state people are more receptive and open to musical experiences, and for years our group has been developing this concert format to be as unique an experience as possible. We build our programs without any interuptions, with each piece transitioning elegantly into the next.
LightsOut is build around violinist Magnus Boye Hansen and myself, with most projects including collaborators like Nikolai Matthews, Mathias Johanssen and Miguel Perez Inesta.
Current programs include:
Messiaen: Quartet to the End of Time
Dark Minimalism: Music by Reich, Adams, Dennehy, Wolfe
Bach: Goldberg Variations
New Nordic: Music written for the dark by Finnur Karlson, Martin Rane Bauch, Inga Margrete Aas and Ingibjørg Fridriksdottir
Reviews
““An extremely intensive experience “ ”
““Excellent musicians ... a phenomenal performance “ ”
“...the three phenomenal young players, Magnus Boye Hansen (violin), Steven Walter (cello) and Mathias Susaas Halvorsen (piano) performed without any possibility of visual communication with one another. No scores, no glance at the keyboard, total darkness. The usual concet situation, in which visual impressions also play a role, was suddenly no longer there. Instead, all the other senses were noticeably enhanced.”
““The audience was utterly silent. The total concentration of the musicians also transformed the listeners.” ”
